Winter Holidays and Our Pets

Off Road Paws love the holidays! It is my favorite time of year and I want to share all of the decorations, food and presents with my family. This, of course, includes wanting to spoil my dog and cat rotten.  I am sure all of you feel the same way!  Unfortunately, a lot of the things we enjoy during the holidays can be very dangerous to our dogs and cats.  There are the obvious dangers- ornament eating, tree-climbing cats, food-stealing dogs, etc. but there are so many more dangers that aren’t as obvious.  Giving a dog just a little extra bit of leftovers can cause severe gastrointestinal upset or inflammation to the pancreas (pancreatitis). Even one raisin can cause kidney failure in dogs that are sensitive to them.  Cats LOVE to chew on poinsettias, holly, lilies and/or mistletoe, all of which are toxic even in small amounts.   Make sure when giving your dog or cat a stocking full of toys and treats that they are all pet-approved! I am planning on spoiling my dog and cat for Christmas in our house and I hope you have the same plans!! Just make sure to keep them safe:) Below are a couple links that have great lists of hazards for pets during the holidays.  Off Road Paws is always here to help with pet sitting, dog walking or dog running during and after the holidays!!
